Solving Access Problems
The most common error is a
Domain Name Server (DNS) error. This is usually a problem with the network on
your side. Occasionally there is an issue for you to get through OUR firewall.
But first, we might be able to help determine where the problem in the network
is with your assistance.
Please NOTE: It is possible
that your email address is .MIL but that your network is not registered as .MIL
(as determined by DISA). The procedures below can help you (and us) determine
this.
To test your access, Use the
computer you are having problems with, and please go to the following site: http://www.dtic.mil/test/
When the
window appears:
1) Press
the Test Again Button.
2) The
2nd line labeled IP ADDRESS should show your IP address then equals =) and what
the DNS Translates To (column). In this field there should be an address that
ends with .MIL.
IF IT DOES
(state .MIL), then please send me a copy of the image (preferably by email) or
the information on the entire screen, and I will initiate an investigation on
it from our network side.
IF IT DOES NOT
(state .MIL or states UNKNOWN), then your network
is not published on the DNS server. This is an issue
for your local network folks.
We will ALSO need you to go
to the URL (Web Address):
http://webservices.hq.dla.mil/
and capture the screen images there.
Both these items will help
use determine and correct the problem
you are having.
